When you get an email that says this you should feel a warning flag go up.

However if you want to make sure that this is not a valid email but am wondering if it was sent from AOL you should contact AOL directly and not click on the link that appears in the email that was sent to you.

Unfortunately a lot of scammers are making a lot of free money by scamming people this way!

Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-73051009450763981002009-12-04T20:29:00.002-05:002009-12-04T20:37:09.916-05:00AOL Will Be Cutting Jobs!

According to an online article AOL will be cutting jobs so that it can save millions of dollars.

You can read the online article by clicking here.

If you are an AOL member you can follow the discussion that appears on one of the AOL message boards by clicking here.

In January of 2009 it seems that AOL employees received an internal memo stating plans to cut 700 jobs.

Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-80464478293440144682009-04-17T20:35:00.001-04:002009-05-02T20:44:25.416-04:00Be Careful Of These Kinds Of Emails!

Dear AOL Member,

This confirms that your AOL payment method has been updated to reflect the new information you provided. Here is what I found so far.

Dear Message Board users,

We wanted to tell you about some changes that are coming to your AOL Message board experience. Many of the most popular message boards are getting a new look and feel in the coming weeks, while a number of the less frequently used message boards are being retired. Be sure to check back at the People Connection Message Boards page for an up-to-date list of active message boards.

These changes will take place on March 31st, 2009.

Thank you for being part of the AOL Message Board community. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

The good news is that AOL has partnered with American Greetings® PhotoWorks® to enable continued access to your pictures through the PhotoWorks service. PhotoWorks provides unlimited free storage, just like AOL Pictures, as well as a variety of options for making creations and sharing your photos. You can access your images on PhotoWorks simply by providing your screen name and password to register for a free American Greetings PhotoWorks account. Register for PhotoWorks now.

While we recommend the American Greetings PhotoWorks option, you may also:

Download your photos to your computer using a new tool that will enable you to quickly save multiple images and albums; or
Purchase a DVD archive of your images. Please note there is a charge for the DVD archive based on the number of images you select.

It is important that you take action no later than December 31, 2008. After this date, you will no longer be able to access your images through AOL Pictures. You may choose from or combine any of the options listed above, based on your needs, as long as you do so by December 31.

Please go to AOL Pictures as soon as possible to register for American Greetings PhotoWorks for continued access to your pictures or to save your images on your computer or to DVD. Here, you will also find more information and step-by-step instructions on each of the available choices.

We sincerely appreciate your being an AOL Pictures user. It has been our pleasure to provide you with an enjoyable online photo experience.

Sincerely,

The AOL Pictures Team

Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-67157135150914916892008-10-04T21:35:00.002-04:002008-10-04T21:39:15.281-04:00AOL Hometown / FTP And Journals To Be Discontinued!Shocking news! The fee will increase from $9.95 per month to $11.99 per month.. The increase is due to providing 24 hour tech support for those AOL subscribers that need it. However, long-time subscribers can opt out of this new plan and still get the $9.99 (I thought it was $9.95) plan as long as they don't want the 24 hour tech support. There used to be a time when AOL has a place where you could download all types of good and FREE downloads. AOL members could even upload their own works to the download library so that other people could download them and what made it especially good was that AOL scanned the uploads to make sure that there were no virus's on the upload.

What seems to have taken the place of AOL's download center is something called the Download Squad - which I don't particularly like! Maybe I will just have to get used to it?

There still seems to be a way to get to some of the files at the old download center on AOL but the problem is that I'm only able to get to certain files as opposed to having access to all the different types of files available to download.

I may have to work on this to see if I can get to the complete old download center on AOL because I miss it very much!Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-68560147189991993582008-05-01T21:31:00.002-04:002008-05-01T21:36:31.744-04:00AOL Is Free?I was talking to someone about AOL now being free and they didn't even know about it!

For those of you that don't know, AOL is now being offered for free. All you have to do is go to their website and sign up.

When you do sign up you will be given a free AOL email address for yourself and you can participate in the AOL message boards. You will also have access to a wealth of information that AOL has.

About the only thing that you do not get - at least I think you don't get - is your own AOL member webpages.

Why is AOL offering it's services for free? My guess is that they feel that they can make more money by allowing advertisers to advertise on the AOL pages.

In any case while AOL is being offered for free there are still many people who still belong to their paid service.Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-82012996256354781462008-03-09T18:48:00.002-04:002008-03-09T18:50:42.162-04:00Another AOLer Has Moved Their AOL JournalHere is a link to a blog post from someone that moved their AOL Journal to another blog site - in this case Blogger.com.

It seems that they were dis-heartened by the fact that AOL has now put banner ads at the top of their AOL Journals.Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-16293282340145197342008-03-06T01:22:00.000-05:002008-03-07T01:28:03.920-05:00Be Sure To Watch Out For This Kind Of Illegitmate Email! Here is a copy of an email sent to an AOL member:

Welcome to AOL Customer Support

Dear AOL Member

Contact Us

Have a question regarding your AOL account?

Contact us now!

E-mail your questions: Call us at 1-888-265-8005

It has come to our attention that your AOL Billing Information records are out of date. According to most of the AOL members they did not get an option to have these AOL banners on their AOL site - the banners just started

appearing - and a lot of AOLers are upset about it! A lot of people are saying that they are fed up with AOL and are considering moving their pages to another site.

Others have posted "solutions" to getting rid of the AOL banners but none of those ideas / suggestions are working on a permanent basis.

I tried looking online for some answer or maybe some information about AOL announcing that they would start adding their AOL banners to members

websites but so far I can't find anything about it except the link below which goes to one of the AOL boards where people are posting about how upset

they are that this kind of thing is happening to them.

Those "Ugly" AOL Banners!

AOL Member Pleads - "Please Remove The AOL Banners
From My AOL Website!"

AOLers Want Those AOL Banners REMOVED From Their AOL Websites!Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-11116158307468137882008-02-07T20:03:00.001-05:002008-02-07T20:07:39.146-05:00AOL Subscribers Have To Be Very Careful! There are always numerous attempts by "scammers" to get your AOL information. For example here is a recent email sent to an AOL member:

Dear Valued AOL member,

In an effort to keep our records up to date, please take a moment to verify that your contact information on file is correct. You can update your information online anytime at AOL Keyword: My Account or on the web at bill.aol.com

If you wish to discuss your account with a billing consultant online please visit AOL Keyword: Get Billing Help.

Once you have updated your account records your AOL session will not be interrupted and will continue as normal . Failure to update will result in cancellation of service, Terms of Service (TOS) violations or future problems.

Sincerely,
Member Services
AOL LLC

This is NOT a legitimate email from AOL!

AOL itself says that they will never ask you for your password or log in information!

So if you get this email please be advised that it is not a legitimate email from AOL!Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-46336537192950085132008-02-01T18:15:00.000-05:002008-02-01T18:20:26.039-05:00Another AOL "Secret" Has Seem To Bitten The Dust!A lot of people were unhappy with the new message board formats on AOL because they required a lot more power on a persons' computer. A few "helpful" AOL'ers provided "back door" links to where the old message board formats could be located. The old format required less of a computer and that is why a lot of people favored them.

Well it now seems that the "back doors" are closing up! The links that were being provided are no longer working. A few people have claimed that they still have a link that will lead to the old format of the message boards - but they don't seem to be working either.Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-50408043801481928322008-01-16T08:10:00.000-05:002008-01-16T08:29:44.458-05:00Is This Another Attempt At A Scam? Here is a copy of a recent email that I got:

Your AOL Billing Information records are out of date.
From:
Reply To:
To:
CC:
BCC:
Sent on:

Sent from the Internet (Details)
Internet Address Card Attached

Welcome to AOL Customer Support

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures, we have detected a slight error in your account information.

This might be due to either of the following reasons:

A recent change in your personal information ( i.e.change of address).

Submiting invalid information during the initial sign up process.

An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our processors.

Due to this, we require you to confirm and verify your account information by clicking the link below:

Click here to verify your account

If your account information is not confirmed and verified within a certain period of time then your ability to access your account would become restricted.

Thank you
This is an automatic message. Please do not reply.

Contact Us
Have a question regarding your AOL account?

Contact us now!

E-mail your questions
Call us at 1-888-xxx-xxxx

Now the first thing that I did was to put my cursor over the blue link to see the url of the link. There was "AOL" included in the link but my mind still said no. One of the reasons why this "warning" bell went off is because legitimate AOL email has a different kind of icon.

So I think that it is another attempt at "phishing" whereas you get an email that looks legitimate but it really is not.

If you are unsure about any email that asks you for your personal or password information you should NOT click on the link that is provided.Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-84843529803427312162007-12-08T19:56:00.000-05:002007-12-08T20:06:57.824-05:00AOL And Usenet Newsgroups! There was a time when AOL members had free access to most of the Usenet newsgroups.

In case you didn't know, Usenet newsgroups are message forums where you can post messages, questions and answer other peoples' messages.

But AOL has since cancelled this access to the newsgroups.

The alternative is to join the Google Groups where the access is free BUT you don't get access to the binary newsgroups where you can post pictures (and see / access them as well).

There are some free newsgroup servers out there but the list of them is ever-changing. Some of them are not reliable and some of them allow you to read the posts but you can't post to the newsgroup(s).

I'm currently investigating getting netscape access to the newsgroups. I had netscape a long time ago and remember being able to access some of the usenet newsgroups. The current version of netscape doesn't allow for access to the newsgroups so I had to download an older version of it which I did. Now I'm fooling around with the newsgroups that I have been able to subscibe to. In order to post to these newsgroups you need to have an email account. You can register with netscape to get an email account - which I am trying to do now but I keep getting cut off.

Of course there are newsgroup servers where you can pay to get access to the newsgroups too.Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-29181630599442868452007-11-26T01:35:00.000-05:002007-11-26T01:44:17.032-05:00AOL Journals ChatThis seems to be a new feature. Unfortunately when I clicked on the link to get to the AOL Journals chat I couldn't get on the page because it took too long to load.

I will try again and when I manage to get into their AOL Journals chat I will post about it here.

Update - I managed to get to the AOL Journals chat room via a second method. What I did was go to the chat room listings and then I entered AOL Jorunals in the search box and that is what lead me to the chatroom. Unfortunately this particular time when I got into the chat room there was nobody else there. So I'll try again another time.Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5913301131563887682.post-86140277208855915572007-11-26T00:59:00.001-05:002007-11-26T01:02:22.029-05:00The AOL Blog - About This BlogAOL is short for America On Line which is an ISP provider that has come a very long way from since it first began!

Currently AOL has undergone some new changes where now you can have an AOL email address for free!

There are newsgroups about those that hate AOL. There is even this thing going around that classifies AOL users as dumb and stupid!

But anyway you look at it AOL is still quite popular!Sister2brotherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07717579654875305377noreply@blogger.com0
